| CBS Studios Sound Stages
ACCO designed and built two 600-ton central plants
connected by an underground chilled water distribution
system. The first phase consisted of a central plant with
four evaporative cooled screw chillers. This served stages
4, 5, 9, 10, and various support buildings.
Stages 9 and 10 were converted from DX package units to
chilled water air handlers. Design build cooling systems
allows operation below the NC20 level. A four-story
office/support building was connected to the cooling loop.
Phase II included a second 600-ton central plant consisting
of a centrifugal chiller/cooling tower and variable speed
drive pumping was connected to the distribution loop. This
cross connecting adds significant diversity to the system.
Sound stages 3 and 4 were converted to "silent-air",
including an innovative retrofit of DX packages to chilled
water. Performance below NC20 was confirmed.
ACCO designed, installed, and commissioned an
extensive Automated Logic Controls DDC control system.
CBS electricians worked on the installation. This gives
CBS a valuable tool for centralized monitoring and control
of critical HVAC systems.
