Cathedral of Christ the Light

The Cathedral Center of Christ the Light, is located at 2121 Harrison Street, and has an estimated budget of $190 million. Scheduled to open September 25, 2008, the newest cathedral in the nation will bring together two parishes, St. Francis de Sales (which was damaged beyond repair in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake) and St. Mary’s. The unique plan and revolutionary use of light as an element of architectural design has already earned the architect, Craig Hartman, the San Francisco American Institute of Architects Design Award.

Keeping the Sanctuary comfortable was both a design and construction challenge. The large floor area uses an innovative radiant cooling and heating system, complemented by a displacement ventilation distribution system provided under floor. Other support areas are handled through more conventional VAV methods. Controls for comfort and energy management are handled through an ACCO installed Automated Logic Controls (ALC) DDC System.
